Representative John Kline
1429 Longworth HOB
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Kline:

On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), and the average working American, I would like to thank you and commend your efforts to have the Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) funding restored to its 2007 levels. Leadership like yours is necessary in a time when current tax-and-spend liberals wish to continue their “joined-at-the-hip” relationship with big labor and union bosses by blatantly cutting funding for an organization that monitors union activity.

As you well know, the recently passed H.R. 3043, the Department of Labor appropriations bill cut the OLMS budget by $2 million and fell $11 million short of the Bush administration’s budget request. By cutting funding for the agency that monitors union activity, those in Congress are sending a clear message to the American worker that big labor does not need monitoring. Cutting the funding for a government agency completely interferes with that agencies ability to effectively and efficiently do their job.

However, strong leadership like yours in the face of adversity stands out; especially in the current Congress. That is why it is crucial to continue to monitor union activity and do all that is necessary to ensure that organizations that monitor these groups have the essential tools and funding to adequately do their job.

I am asking you to urge your colleagues on the Senate to vote against H.R. 3043 as it drastically reduces much needed funding and sends the wrong message to the American people. With union membership on a national decline and worker freedom climbing, members of Congress should do all that is necessary to support worker freedom. By cutting OLMS funding, H.R. 3043 allows corrupt unions to go unchecked and unmonitored – the Senate should not make the same mistake.

Despite the passage of H.R. 3043, your commitment and dedication to restoring OLMS funding to the 2007 levels should not go unnoticed. Leaders like you continue to send a strong message that union monitoring should remain in the forefront of securing a free and prosperous economy for American workers to thrive.

Sincerely,

Brian M Johnson,
Director of Policy
