Continuing the Alliance for Worker Freedom’s pursuit of a more transparent, interest-free government, the AWF sent the subsequent follow-up letter to Senate Secretary Nancy Erickson and US Attorney Channing D. Phillips regarding the ongoing investigation in Andy Stern.

Dear Secretary Erickson:

On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) and per our original letter to you dated November 13, 2009, I would like to inquire into the status of the investigation of Service Employees International Union President Andy Stern for potentially violating the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA).

Since receiving your November 19, 2009 letter where you outlined your office’s prospective actions we have not heard from you. In your letter, you wrote,

“our procedure is to advise the entity (Andy Stern) that the office has received a third party complaint; to advise the entity of the reporting obligations of the Act; and to request a response to our letter.”

On January 5, 2010 Andy Stern told Carol Costello in a one-on-one interview on CNN: “We’re going to send them a letter and tell them the truth, which is we’ve complied with the law. And we assume whenever the investigation is done it will be fine.”

Have you received your requested response from Mr. Stern or the SEIU? If you have, what was the nature of the response? Has your office forwarded this matter to the United States Attorney for review?

Given Mr. Stern’s recent appointment to the “Debt Panel” and the Presidents commitment to a more transparent government, this case remains relevant.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter and I look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Brian M. Johnson, MPA
Executive Director

Cc: US Attorney Channing D. Phillips
