Does the AFL-CIO Owe the IRS $14 Million?
Free Market Labor Group Exposes Incongruence in Financial Forms

WASHINGTON, D.C. —   Today, the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) sent a letter to the IRS urging the investigation of a possible misfiling by the AFL-CIO union that could potentially result in the AFL-CIO owing $14 million in back taxes.

According to Executive Director Brian Johnson, “we discovered that the AFL-CIO listed on their LM-2 financial disclosure forms that must be filed with the Department of Labor that they report spending $41, 620,583 on political activates in 2006. However, on their IRS Form-990 for July 1, 2005 – June 30, 2006, they report spending zero dollars ($0.00) on direct or indirect political expenditures. Which is it?” asks Johnson.

The Alliance for Worker Freedom maintains that if the AFL-CIO did not pay taxes on all or part of the $41,620,583 reported to the Department of Labor as political expenditures, then they may owe the IRS (and the American public) upwards of $14,000,000.

A copy of the letter AWF sent to the IRS is available on www.workerfreedom.org.
