Legislative Alert: AWF Will Rate Co-Sponsorship of H.R. 5775, LMRDA Enforcement Act

LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Washington, D.C. – On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) and millions of rank-and-file hardworking Americans, I urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 5775, the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Enforcement Act of 2008 introduced by Rep. Sessions (R-TX).
„« The LMDRA ensures enforcement of union financial transparency and contains a mechanism for ensure unions comply on time. Unions can currently wait to file their financial transparency forms until the threat of injunction. To exacerbate the problem, litigation processes are so lengthy that de facto, unions often with do not file at all, or file well after the deadline.
„« The LMRDA will further help OLMS carry out its duties, and unions comply with the law. The LMRDA would allow unions to file their forms online, as well as create a database on the OLMS website with a comprehensive list of the laws, forms for file, and other miscellaneous provisions to ensure union compliance with the law.
„« Union members have a right to know how their dues are being spent.
„« Union members should have the same protections as stockholders.
„« OLMS is the only agency devoted to the protection of dues-paying union members.
„« The Act will promote LMRDA compliance and enable the OLMS to continue its successful efforts by motivating full legal compliance by labor unions.
