Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator McCain (R-Ariz.) threatened to put a hold on perhaps the most controversial nominee voted out of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), Craig Becker, who works for the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

“Becker has shown a blatant disregard for worker choice,” says the Alliance for Worker Freedom’s (AWF) Executive Director Brian Johnson. “When ACORN and former Governor Rod Blagojevich are close associates and character references, you know you’ve gone to the far left of the political spectrum. The bottom-line is that Becker can now use the NLRB to take rights away from workers and skew the system in favor of organized labor.”

AWF has opposed several of Obama’s nominee’s including; Patricia Smith, nominee for Solicitor General at the Department of Labor, and David Michaels, nominee to head the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).

“The H.E.L.P. Committee leadership should have called for a full hearing on Becker,” commented Johnson. “McCain should be applauded for calling Becker ‘the most controversial nominee [he’s] seen in a long time’ – other Committee members should take note.”

Johnson says he Alliance for Worker Freedom is already working with a number of Senators to place a hold on Becker to prevent a full Senate vote adding, “We are very confident we have found someone to stand up and take the charge on this.”
