New Hampshire: Custodians Protest Privatization Decision

DOVER — Local school custodial union members again will take to the streets outside City Hall to protest the school district's decision to privatize custodial staff.

Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2932 will hold an all-day rally today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. as part of a "sustained campaign" against the decision to award the private, Massachusetts-based UNICCO a contract to supply custodial services beginning in the 2008-09 school year.

Union representatives also claim the school district has refused to meet with the union to renegotiate contracts, possibly allowing the district to avoid privatization.
