Pennsylvania: Economy Driving More to Unions

According to the Bucks County Courier Times from an interview with AWF Executive Director Brian Johnson:

Unions still have their detractors.

The Washington, D.C.-based Alliance for Worker Freedom questions whether unions are still relevant.

The alliance opposes collective bargaining and maintains that labor unions usurp the power of employees to represent themselves. It supports workers' right to unionize but it does not support unions using their power to pressure workers into joining or forcing them to pay dues.

Despite labor's gains in 2007, Brian Johnson, the alliance's executive director, likened unions to “an injured bear that can still hurt you.

“They're increasingly becoming more ferocious about wrangling workers into the dues-paying membership,” he said.
