Senator Webb A Enemy to Workers of Virginia
AWF Condemns Vote for H.R. 800

Washington, D.C. — As Labor Day approaches and the Alliance for Worker Freedom is gearing up its Congressional scorecard, Director of Policy, Brian M. Johnson today issued the following statement condemning Senator Webb’s vote, joining with Big Labor and against the workers of Virginia:

“Falling right in line with the recent string of anti-worker freedom legislation such as H.R. 980, emergency workers union; H.R. 2638, Davis Bacon Mil-Con spending; and recently, H.R. 3043, cutting the union watchdog budget by $2 million, H.R. 800 is the final straw in killing worker freedom. Luckily, it did not pass,” says Brian Johnson. “Senator Webb is proving to the American worker that big labor trumps worker privacy rights by voting for H.R. 800.  This bill would increase the power of Big Labor, trample on the rights of the American worker, and lead directly to more government employees – thus resulting in higher taxes.

H.R. 800 passed the U.S. House of Representatives but failed to pass in the Senate. This legislation represents the biggest power grab by organized labor in a generation.  H.R. 800 bill would strip workers of their right to a federally-supervised, private ballot election.  It would replace this personal choice with a public “card check” campaign.  Under this public scheme, the worker’s decision is made public to his boss, the union organizers, and his co-workers.

“Card check does nothing but make employees vulnerable to union threats and their families targets of discrimination by organized labor”, adds Johnson. Webb should have to answer to folks back home as to how much “union boss” money it takes to make a Senator disregard worker freedom and the right to privacy?
